Vega Advanced Triumphal Model Trumpet |
|
Vega Company I had a Triumphal model cornet years ago so decided to buy this neglected trumpet and see how well it played. In the early 1930s the big style craze in trumpets was a very narrow vertical profile often referred to as a "pea shooter" design. Vega came out with the Triumphal model trumpet in 1929 then this Advanced Triumphal model in 1936. I have only found three examples of this model so far and all were in the 33000 to 33100 serial number range. The Great Depression was probably not a good time to bring out a new model as this one seems to have been short-lived. Here it is when I got it; quite tarnished and a bit beat up. Thankfully I had an extra matching finger button in my parts collection. All apart except for the top tuning slide inner tube as it was completely stuck. After several days of penetrating fluid and several attempts at removing the tube, I gave up and took the outer tube off to get at the inner tube better. This still didn't help me so I turned to the final removal method of filing a groove inside until it went through the tube wall then removing the pieces. Now all cleaned up and ready for assembly.
